AGM Walk 31st October 2010

A total of twenty nine CROWS and guests took the Cooley's today.

(Twenty two in the usual walk and seven late starters)

Starting at the Lumpers and along the forest path eventually to Carnawaddy,

back via The Doonan and Ballymakellett

Round trip of circa 9Km with a height gain of 440m.

CROWS in Spain 2010

Sixteen CROWS and a two fledglings headed to Sella north of Alicante in Spain for a few days walking and climbing. Thanks to the Iclandic volcanic ash cloud the few days became a few more, but finally four days after the expected return date all were home some managing to "Escape from Alicante" earlier.

Congrats to Gerry Duffy who went out a Fledgling and returned a CROW after receiving his wings on top of Itana on day three as we decended for a leg of lamb or two or three (Brian)

Irish Coffee on Donard - 28th Dec 2009

Fifteen CROWS and a Fledgling took to Slieve Donard from Bloodybridge Car Park on Monday 28th December for the second year of Irish Coffee at the sumit. Great views - best ever from Donard. Eugene resorted to melting snow for the Irish Coffee's when we ran short of water - little fear of running short of the whiskey - Raymond to the rescue on that count. All home safe and sound except that is for the Black eye that Martin will be wearing for the next few days - walking stick (not saying who's) jumped up and give him a great shiner!

OXFAM - No Awards night - Carlingford

The CROWS decended on the Four Seasons Hotel, Carlingford on 5th December for the Oxfam Trail Trekker - Awards night - or in the case of the CROWS - No Awards - despite dancing better and longer than all other teams, drinking more free wine than all the other teams put together and staying longer than any other team.

At lease Eugene got some flowers for Noel Redmond - Ann and Catherine managed to leave their finger prints on someones award and a few stars shone as the night went on!

Six Crows and a wayward cuckoo headed to the Mournes and hiked up Slieve Bearnagh 735M followed by Mealea Mor 650M - a round trip of 10k with snow on Bearnagh

Galtee's - Aherlow Valley

Twelve CROWS headed south on Friday 20th November and rested in the Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Lodge at Limerick Junction in South Tipperary.
The CROWS were joined on Saturday 21st by Feargal (friend of Eugene's) and despite the wet morning we headed for Galtee Mór - a dry but very Windy no Very very windy walk of 16km climbing to 908m the fourt highest sumit in Ireland.

Grerry from Dundalk Extra - doing his Stuff!

The CROWS organised a night of Ceol agus Craic in Corbetts, Seatown on Friday 31st July as the final fundraising event for the Oxfam Trail Trekker 100 K challenge to be held in September.

Music was provided by "Crooked Jack" and a great night was had by all.

Thanks to all who supported the event and indeed the other funraising events and to those who sponsered the participants - your generosity was such that we now have two teams entered in the event. More news to come soon.

Belfast 20th June - Black Mountain & Mural Tour

It was all aboard the 8.30 express to Belfast Central on Saturday 20th June. Twenty travellers of whcih 17 walked the Black Mountain where Mary and Damien received their wings and became the latest CROWS.
After a damish walk and meeting a guy who said he won £25K on a TV show (Yea right!) it was back for a Taxi tour of the Belfast Mural sites - Well done Ann Keelan great trip - for more photos see the slide show section on the right - "Belfast, Black Mountain & Mural tour"

Oxfam Challenge - Stage 1 - 31st May 2009

Twelve hearty souls walked the first leg of the Oxfam Challenge on Sunday 31st May.

While we stuck maily to the proposed route we managed to add another another 7km to the journey and completed the 27km treck from Rostrevor to Leitrim Lodge and back again in seven hours.

A good start to the training and familiarisation for those who are planning to undertake the Oxfam Challenge in September - Well done to all.

Twenty Five travelled to Donegal on the weekend of Saturday 23rd/Sunday 24th May
Twenty two scaled a very wet Mt Errigal (751 mts) and all reached the top and back down
to see Lenister beat Leicester in the Henineken Rugby Cup final.
Accommodation was at the five star Errigal Hostel, Bun Beagand we dined at Teach Leo in Annagrie were we were entertained by Jim Duffy and Kyle Mulholland - Well done lads.

A leisurely walk with coffee and apple pie in Glenveagh National Park finished off a great weekend. Well done to all who travelled.

The CROWS decided to do some Up-Skilling today and under the guidance of Roisin McAuley the group gained some valuable familiarisation with equipment and techniques necessary for the removal of injured hill walkers - Michael Biker McDonnell wandered off and acted as the lost and injured hill walker while the remainder of the group ably lead by Eugene Mulholland searched found treated and recovered the victim. So them there hills are all the safer now that Ann "The Wheel" Keelan initiated the CROWS Rescue WING!!

CROWS Snow Shoeing - France

The CROWS took a trip to the Chaminox Valley, France via Geneva Airport from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th March. Two days were spent Snow shoeing while the third was spent on the ski runs near the village of Argentiere were the CROWS nested in Hotel les Grand Montets.

Slieve Donnard on Sunday 4th May from Bloody Bridge
car Park on the coast road -along the river (but which one)
to summit. Steep wet and windy climb. Lunch behind the
wall.
Decend along the wall to Brandy Pad and onto the Quarry -
back to carpark along THE RIVER foggy turning to nice
bright sunshine. 14 souls completed the 8.4km and climbed
854m

Thanks to Daithi for this weeks photos - We had 19 walkers who braved the hills on Sunday 25th November. We completed a 9.8 km route at an average speed of 3.6 km and reached a maximum height of 506 meters.
